Show HN: Monchromate – Smart greyscale browser extension
monochromate.lirena.in4 months back I started making an extension named monochromate which was basically a greyscale extension, I realised power of them when I turned it on my phone and the thing is being a programmer most of my time is spent on browsers ... and that's where it don't exist (at least not the perfect solution for my needs).
That's how I came up with it, made it open source, recently passed 100 users over chrome webstore and it have 5-star rating as of now.
and yes you might say that why would I need it when I can do this with filters that can be toggled via settings, thing is I didn't wanted to greyscale my work sites as well and thus I made site exclusion, also have scheduler, intensity control and above that all it supports all the browsers including Firefox providing same experience.
Would love any kind of feedback over this!!
This is cool lol. Something Ill definitely use for working into the evenings.
I use the built in accessibility "Color Filters" in Mac with the Menu Bar shortcut to toggle it on/off

Somewhat related: I really like f.lux's "Darkroom" feature. Although I no longer use the app to reduce blue light after the advent of macOS's Night Shift, Darkroom mode tints the screen completely red (like a red version of Color Filters). It's great for working during the wee hours.

yes, definitely I am with you at that point, they are a great way to do this without a doubt although I am a windows user (lol) and also even if it's very fast to toggle the color filters via shortcut keys. I don't think so that I will be willing to toggle it off when I visit any work-related website like GitHub, Figma and such so site exclusion of this extension works really great for me in that perspective.
Very nice extension! Sometimes the first image on a page is briefly displayed in color, maybe it's my computer (Firefox under Linux). Is something like this also possible for Android?
Just downloaded it. UI looks very nice.
Glad you liked it
